Item Restricted Assessment on the distributions and exchange of anionic surfactants in the coastal environment of Peninsular Malaysia: A review(Springer, 2022) Royston Uning; Suhaimi Suratman; Mohd Talib Latif; Nur Ili Hamizah MustaffaTerrestrial anionic surfactants (AS) enter the marine environment through coastal region. Despite that, in general limited knowledge is available on the coastal AS transfer pathway. This paper aims to assess the distributions and exchange of AS in the Peninsular Malaysia coastal environments, adjacent to the southern waters of South China Sea and Strait of Malacca.Item Embargo Composition and source apportionment of surfactants in atmospheric aerosols of urban and semi-urban areas in Malaysia(Elsevier, 2013) Nurul Bahiyah Abd Wahid; Mohd Talib Latif; Suhaimi SuratmanThis study was conducted to determine the composition and source apportionment of surfactant in atmospheric aerosols around urban and semi-urban areas in Malaysia based on ionic compositions. Colorimetric analysis was undertaken to determine the concentrations of anionic surfactants as Methylene Blue Active Substances (MBAS) and cationic surfactants as Disulphine Blue Active Substances (DBAS) using a UV spectrophotometer.Item Embargo Distribution of surfactants along the estuarine area of Selangor River, Malaysia(Elsevier, 2014) Murad Ali Alsalahi; Mohd Talib Latif; Masni Mohd Ali; Sami Muhsen Magam; Nurul Bahiyah Abd Wahid; Md Firoz Khan; Suhaimi SuratmanThis study aims to determine the levels of methylene blue active substances (MBAS) and ethyl violet active substances (EVAS) as anionic surfactants and of disulphine blue active substances (DBAS) as cationic surfactants in the surface microlayer (SML) around an estuarine area using colorimetric methods.Item Embargo Input of organic matter in Brunei Bay, East Malaysia, as indicated by sedimentary steroids and multivariate statistics(Elsevier, 2020) Swee Yun Pang; Joo Hui Tay; Suhaimi Suratman; Bernd R.T. Simoneit; Norhayati Mohd TahiraBrunei Bay is one of the most important marine environments of East Malaysia (South China Sea), covering many productive ecosystems with activities including fisheries, tourism, and main shipping lanes for petroleum transfers. Evaluation of the sources and distributions of steroids in the surface sedimentary organic matter was carried out by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS).Item Embargo Investigation of aliphatic hydrocarbons in core sediments of Brunei Bay, East Malaysia(Elsevier, 2021) Swee Yun Pang; Suhaimi Suratman; Joo Hui Tay; Norhayati Mohd TahirThe distribution of aliphatic hydrocarbons in three sediment cores from Brunei Bay was investigated in order to understand their sources and the biogeochemical processes of these hydrocarbons.Item Embargo Lateral distribution, environmental occurrence and assessment of organic pollutants in surface sediments of the west and south Peninsular Malaysia(Springer, 2023) Sadeq Abdullah Abdo Alkhadher; Suhaimi Suratman; Mohamad Pauzi ZakariaSurface sediment samples had collected from the west and south of Peninsular Malaysia to determine the LAB content and distribution. The samples were analyzed, and their sources were determined using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The statistical significance of the variations among sampling stations was examined using the analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Pearson correlation coefficient at p < 0.01. The degrees of LAB degradation and the effectiveness of sewage treatment were assessed using long to short chains L/S, homologs C13/C12, and internal to external (I/E) indices.Item Embargo Monsoonal variations in atmospheric surfactants at different coastal areas of the Malaysian Peninsula(Elsevier, 2016) Shoffian Amin Jaafar; Mohd Talib Latif; Intan Suraya Razak; Muhammad Zulhilmi Shaharudin; Md Firoz Khan; Nurul Bahiyah Abd Wahid; Suhaimi SuratmanThis study determined the effect of monsoonal changes on the composition of atmospheric surfactants in coastal areas. The composition of anions (SO42 −, NO3−, Cl−, F−) and the major elements (Ca, K, Mg, Na) in aerosols were used to determine the possible sources of surfactants. Surfactant compositions were determined using a colori-metric method as methylene blue active substances (MBAS) and disulphine blue active substances (DBAS). The anion and major element compositions of the aerosol samples were determined by ion chromatography (IC) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), respectively.Item Embargo Sandbar-regulated hydrodynamic influences on river hydrochemistry at Mengabang Telipot River, Peninsular Malaysia(Springer, 2012) Mei Kee Koh; Edlic Sathiamurthy; Suhaimi Suratman; Norhayati Mohd TahirInfluences of river hydrodynamic behaviours on hydrochemistry (salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen saturations and dissolved phosphorus) were evaluated through high spatial and temporal resolution study of a sandbar-regulated coastal river. River hydrodynamic during sandbar-closed event was characterized by minor dependency on tidal fluctuations, very gradual increase of water level and continual low flow velocity.Item Restricted Spatial and temporal variations in nutrients during upwelling season off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia(Springer, 2021) Royston Uning; Suhaimi Suratman; Fatin Adlina Md Nasir; Mohd Talib LatifThis study determines the bulk surface water (BSW) dissolved inorganic nutrients of nitrogen (DINi) and phosphate (DIP) during the upwelling season off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, South China Sea.
