Item Open Access An overview of groundwater chemistry studies in Malaysia(Springer, 2015) Nura Umar Kura; Mohammad Firuz Ramli; Wan Nor Azmin Sulaiman; Shaharin Ibrahim; Ahmad Zaharin ArisIn this paper, numerous studies on groundwater in Malaysia were reviewed with the aim of evaluating past trends and the current status for discerning the sustainability of the water resources in the country.Item Open Access Analysis of meander evolution studies on effect from land use and climate change at the upstream reach of the Pahang River, Malaysia(Springer, 2015) Mohd Khairul Amri Kamarudin; Mohd Ekhwan Toriman; Mohd Hafiz Rosli; Hafizan Juahir; Nor Azlina Abdul Aziz; Azman Azid; Syahrir Farihan Mohamed Zainuddin; Wan Nor Azmin SulaimanHydrogeomorphologically, the study of river meandering provides information on the tendency of rivers to reach and form a state of equilibrium. The process of meander changes is important in order to identify the environment-related causes that occur naturally or vice versa. Sedimentation, erosion, flood, and water quality problems usually are being specifically studied, but in a broad view, changes in the platform of the river affect all the problems that occur. This article discusses the effects of the meanders evolution changes from land use and climate change in the upstream of Sungai Pahang in over 61 years from 1932 to 1993.Item Open Access Application of geographic information system technique and analytical hierarchy process model for land-use suitability analysis on coastal area(Springer, 2013) Milad Bagheri; Wan Nor Azmin Sulaiman; Negin VaghefiThe combination of GIS and Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) is a powerful approach used to assess land suitability. To address this issue, the Analytical Hierarchy Process method is used in combination with the GIS tool. The aim of this study is to demonstrate how GIS tools and AHP model can be used for integrated coastal resource planning and management. Based on the information from final map/suitability map, we can define the best area.Item Metadata only Application of Remote Sensing in the Identification of the Geological Terrain Features in Cameron Highlands, Malaysia(Penerbit UKM) Mohamad Abd.Manap; Mohammad Firuz Ramli; Wan Nor Azmin SulaimanItem Open Access Assessments of seasonal groundwater recharge and discharge using environmental stable isotopes at Lower Muda River Basin, Malaysia(Springer, 2018) Mohd Khairul Nizar Shamsuddin; Wan Nor Azmin Sulaiman; Mohammad Firuz Ramli; Faradiella Mohd Kusin; Kamarudin SamudingAn accurate estimation of groundwater recharge is required to properly manage aquifers, especially for riverbank filtration method (RBF) purposes. The isotopes correlations and differences in different water bodies were studied to assess the sources of groundwater recharge and preliminary tools in understanding of the surface water and groundwater interactions in the Lower Muda River Basin.Item Restricted Groundwater and surface-water utilisation using a bank infiltration technique in Malaysia(Springer, 2014) Mohd Khairul Nizar Shamsuddin; Wan Nor Azmin Sulaiman; Saim Suratman; Mohamad Pauzi Zakaria; Kamarudin SamudingBank infiltration (BI) is one of the solutions to providing raw water for public supply in tropical countries. This study in Malaysia explores the use of BI to supplement a polluted surface-water resource with groundwater. Three major factors were investigated: (1) contribution of surface water through BI to the resulting abstraction, (2) input of local groundwater, and (3) water-quality characteristics of the resulting water supply.Item Metadata only Groundwater Characteristic of the Chuau River Basin Selangor, Malaysia(Penerbit UKM) Mohd. Nazan Awang; Muhammad Barzani Gasim; Wan Nor Azmin SulaimanItem Open Access Hydrologic response characteristics of a tropical catchment to land use changes: a case study of The Nerus catchment(Springer, 2015) Mohd Hafifi Mat Nazir; Wan Nor Azmin Sulaiman; Hafizan JuahirHydrologic response of a catchment with the most common expression through runoff coefficient reflects a complex response of interaction between the rainfall and catchment physical properties. In this study, an attempt has been made through the mean rainfall–runoff polygon method to explore the impact of land use change on the mean monthly runoff coefficient estimated from 27 years of the hydrology and land use records of a tropical catchment located in the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia.Item Restricted Identification of flood source areas in Pahang river basin, Peninsular Malaysia(Thai Society of Higher Education Institutes on Environment, 2020) Wan Nor Azmin Sulaiman; Heshmatpoor A.; Mohd Hafiz RosliThe roles of upland watersheds in flood source contribution towards downstream areas in a river basin system are generally neglected in the inclusion of management strategy related to downstream flood management. In this study an assessment on the flood source area of Pahang river basin was attempted. The concept of unit flood response as an index of hydrologic response was used in identifying the flood source areas for the basinItem Restricted The effects of improved land use on the meteorological modeling in Klang Valley region Malaysia(Thai Society of Higher Eduation Institutes on Environment, 2010) Loi Kok Chng; Ahmad Makmom Abdullah; Wan Nor Azmin Sulaiman; Mohammad Firuz RamliIt has been widely known that changes of the land surface from vegetation area to urban area can substantially affect the surrounding meteorological condition. Meteorological model was used to assess meteorological condition for air quality modeling and forecasting. Inputs used in this study for the meteorological and air quality model were land use and land cover of the terrain. This study tends to examine the sensitivity of land use and land cover on the predicted meteorological conditions. A meteorological simulation using fifth generation mesoscale model (MM5) by Penn State/NCAR was used to compare the effects of land use from two different years on meteorological condition.
