Item Embargo An assessment of selected trace elements in intertidal surface sediments collected from the Peninsular Malaysia(Springer, 2010) Syaizwan Zahmir Zulkifli; Ferdaus Mohamat-Yusuff; Takaomi Arai; Ahmad Ismail; Nobuyuki MiyazakiConcentrations of 11 trace elements (V, Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Ag, Cd, Pb, and U) were determined in the intertidal surface sediments of Peninsular Malaysia.Item Embargo Concentration of heavy metals in street dust and surface soils in urban and peri-urban regions in the Kuala Lumpur metropolitan area(Universiti Pertanian Malaysia Press, 2019) Ahmad Ismail; Munirah Hanapiah; Syaizwan Zahmir Zulkifli; Hishamuddin Omar; Nur Amiera KamarudinThe present study aims to determine the level of heavy metals in surface soils and street dust from selected urban and peri-urban locations in the metropolitan city of Kuala Lumpur. Samples were collected from 15 different locations, where Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) served as the centre point while other locations were located at specific distances from the centre. Surface soils and street dust were collected to detect the level of contamination based on five elements (Zn, Cu, Pb, Cd and Fe).Item Embargo Estimation and influence of physicochemical properties and chemical fractions of surface sediment on the bioaccessibility of Cd and Hg contaminant in Langat River, Malaysia(Springer, 2017) Safaa A. Kadhum; Mohd Yusoff Ishak; Syaizwan Zahmir ZulkifliThis study applied the use of sequential extraction technique and simple bioaccessibility extraction test to quantify the bioavailable fractions and the human bioaccessible concentration of metals collected from nine stations in surface sediment of the Langat River.Item Embargo Evaluation and assessment of baseline metal contamination in surface sediments from the Bernam River, Malaysia(Springer, 2016) Safaa A. Kadhum; Mohd Yusoff Ishak; Syaizwan Zahmir ZulkifliThe Bernam River is one of the most important rivers in Malaysia in that it provides water for industries and agriculture located along its banks. The present study was conducted to assess the level of contamination of heavy metals (Cd, Ni, Cr, Sn, and Fe) in surface sediments in the Bernam River. Nine surface sediment samples were collected from the lower, middle, and upper courses of the river.Item Embargo Evaluation of the status and distributions of heavy metal pollution in surface sediments of the Langat River Basin in Selangor Malaysia(Elsevier, 2015) Safaa A. Kadhum; Mohd Yusoff Ishak; Syaizwan Zahmir Zulkifli; Rohasliney binti HashimThe concentration of four metals: Cd, Ni, Cr, and Sn, in the surface sediment samples from the Langat River were evaluated. Multivariate techniques were used to apportion the sources of the metals.Item Embargo Geofractionation of heavy metals and application of indices for pollution prediction in paddy field soil of Tumpat, Malaysia(Springer, 2013) Ai Yin Sow; Ahmad Ismail; Syaizwan Zahmir ZulkifliThe present study investigates the concentration of Pb, Cd, Ni, Zn, and Cu in the paddy field soils collected from Tumpat, Kelantan. Soil samples were treated with sequential extraction to distinguish the anthropogenic and lithogenic origin of Pb, Cd, Ni, Zn, and Cu. ELFE and oxidizable-organic fractions were detected as the lowest accumulation of Pb, Cd, Ni, Zn, and Cu. Therefore, all the heavy metals examined were concentrated, particularly in resistant fraction, indicating that those heavy metals occurred and accumulated in an unavailable form.Item Restricted Imposex in Thais gradata as a Biomarker for TBT Contamination on the Southern Coast of Peninsular Malaysia(Springer, 2010) Ferdaus Mohamat-Yusuff; Syaizwan Zahmir Zulkifli; Ahmad Ismail; Hiroya Harino; Mohd Kamil Yusoff; Takaomi AraiThais gradata samples were collected from six locations along the southern shores of Peninsular Malaysia and analyzed for imposex incidence and organotin (butyltins (BTs), including tributyltin, dibutyltin, and monobutyltin, and phenyltins (PTs), including triphenyltin, diphenyltin, and monophenyltin concentrations), in tissue burden.Item Embargo Johor Strait as a hotspot for trace elements contamination in Peninsular Malaysia(Springer, 2010) Syaizwan Zahmir Zulkifli; Ahmad Ismail; Ferdaus Mohamat-Yusuff; Takaomi Arai; Nobuyuki MiyazakiPresent study was conducted to evaluate current status of trace elements contamination in the surface sediments of the Johor Strait.
