Estimating particulate matter using satellite based aerosol optical depth and meteorological variables in Malaysia
(Elsevier, 2017) Nurul Amalin Fatihah Kamarul Zaman; Kasturi Devi Kanniah; Dimitris G. Kaskaoutis
The insufficient number of ground-based stations for measuring Particulate Matter < 10 μm (PM10) in the developing countries hinders PM10 monitoring at a regional scale. The present study aims to develop empirical models for PM10 estimation from space over Malaysia using aerosol optical depth (AOD550) and meteorological (surface temperature, relative humidity and atmospheric stability) data (retrieved or estimated) from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) during the period 2007-2011.

Overview of atmospheric aerosol studies in Malaysia: Known and unknown
(Elsevier, 2016) Kasturi Devi Kanniah; Dimitris G. Kaskaoutis; Lim Hwee San; Mohd Talib Latif; Nurul Amalin Fatihah Kamarul Zaman; Liew Juneng
In the present work, we summarize and discuss the results of previous studies that investigated the aerosol properties over Malaysia by means of various instrumentation and techniques, focusing on the use of remote sensing data to examine atmospheric aerosols. Furthermore, we identify gaps in this research field and recommend further studies to bridge these knowledge gaps.
