Application of enrichment factor, geoaccumulation index, and ecological risk index in assessing the elemental pollution status of surface sediments
(Springer, 2019) Ley Juen Looi; Ahmad Zaharin Aris; Fatimah Md. Yusoff; Noorain Mohd Isa; Hazzeman Haris
Sediment can accumulate trace elements in the environment. This study profiled the magnitude of As, Ba, Cd, Co, Cu, Cr, Ni, Pb, Se, and Zn pollution in surface sediments of the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Trace elements were digested using aqua regia and were analyzed using the inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry. The extent of elemental pollution was evaluated using with the enrichment factor (EF) and geoaccumulation index (Igeo).

Extent and severity of groundwater contamination based on hydrochemistry mechanism of sandy tropical coastal aquifer
(Elsevier, 2012) Noorain Mohd Isa; Ahmad Zaharin Aris; Wan Nor Azmin Wan Sulaiman
Small islands are susceptible to anthropogenic and natural activities, especially in respect of their freshwater supply. The freshwater supply in small islands may be threatened by the encroachment of seawater into freshwater aquifers, usually caused by over pumping. This study focused on the hydrochemistry of the Kapas Island aquifer, which controls the groundwater composition. Groundwater samples were taken from six constructed boreholes for the analysis and measurement of its in-situ and major ions.
