Item Embargo Anthropogenic waste indicators (AWIs), particularly PAHs and LABs, in Malaysian sediments: Application of aquatic environment for identifying anthropogenic pollution(Elsevier, 2016) Najat Masood; Mohamad Pauzi Zakaria; Normala Halimoon; Ahmad Zaharin Aris; Sami M. Magam; Narayanan Kannan; Shuhaimi Mustafa; Masni Mohd Ali; Mehrzad Keshavarzifard; Vahab Vaezzadeh; Sadeq Abdullah Abdo Alkhadher; Najat Ahmed Al-OdainiPolycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and linear alkylbenzenes (LABs) were used as anthropogenic markers of organic chemical pollution of sediments in the Selangor River, Peninsular Malaysia. This study was conducted on sediment samples from the beginning of the estuary to the upstream river during dry and rainy seasons.Item Embargo Baseline distributions and sources of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the surface sediments from the Prai and Malacca Rivers, Peninsular Malaysia(Elsevier, 2014) Mehrzad Keshavarzifard; Mohamad Pauzi Zakaria; Tan Shau Hwai; Ferdius@Ferdius Mohamat Yusuff; Shuhaimi Mustafa; Vahab Vaezzadeh; Sami M. Magam; Najat Masood; Sadeq A.A. Alkhadher; Fatemeh Abootalebi-JahromiIn this study, the surface sediments of the Malacca and Prai Rivers were analyzed to identify the distributions, and sources of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs).Item Embargo Distribution of linear Alkylbenzenes (LABs) in sediments of Sarawak and Semnulan rivers, Malaysia(Thai Society of Higher Eduation Institutes on Environment, 2012) Sami Muhsen Magam; Mohamad Pauzi Zakaria; Normala Halimoon; Najat Masood; Murad Ali AlsalahiThe current study is one of the first studies evaluating the levels of linear alkylbenzenes (LABs) in surface sediments of Sarawak and Sembulan rivers which are located in the east coast of Malaysia. The LABs, which are molecular tracers of sewage contamination, were measured in 15 surface sediment samples collected from these rivers. The samples were extracted, fractioned and analyzed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS).Item Embargo Linear alkylbenzenes in surface sediments of an estuarine and marine environment in peninsular Malaysia(Elsevier, 2020) Sadeq Abdullah Abdo Alkhadher; Aeslina Abdul Kadir; Mohamad Pauzi Zakaria; Adel Al-Gheethi; Mehrzad Keshavarzifard; Najat Masood; Khalaf Muslam Alenezi; Sami Muhsen MagameLinear alkylbenzenes were determined in the surface sediments of Muar River and Pulau Merambong, Peninsular Malaysia.Item Embargo Monitoring of linear alkyl benzenes (LABs) in riverine and estuarine sediments in Malaysia(Springer, 2021) Najat Masood; Sadeq A. A. Alkhadher; Sami M. Magam; Normala Halimoon; Abdulmohsen Alsukaibi; Mohamad Pauzi Zakaria; Vahab Vaezzadeh; Mehrzad Keshavarzifard; Sawsan Maisara; Mohammed Khaled Bin BreakThe aim of this a pioneering research is to investigate linear alkylbenzenes (LABs) as biomarkers of sewage pollution in sediments collected from four rivers and estuaries of the south and east of Peninsular Malaysia. The sediment samples went through soxhlet extraction, two-step column chromatography purification, fractionation and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) analysis.Item Embargo Seasonal variability of anthropogenic indices of PAHs in sediment from the Kuala Selangor River, west coast Peninsular Malaysia(Springer, 2018) Najat Masood; Normala Halimoon; Ahmad Zaharin Aris; Mohamad Pauzi Zakaria; Vahab Vaezzadeh; Sami M. Magam; Shuhaimi Mustafa; Masni Mohd Ali; Mehrzad Keshavarzifard; Sadeq Abdullah Abdo Alkhadher; Chui Wei Bong; Murad Ali AlsalahiRapid increase in industrialization and urbanization in the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia has led to the intense release of petroleum and products of petroleum into the environment. Surface sediment samples were collected from the Selangor River in the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia during four climatic seasons and analyzed for PAHs and biomarkers (hopanes).
