Item Embargo An Assessment of Coastal Vulnerability of Pahang's Coast Due to Sea Level Rise(Science Publishing Corporation, 2018) Fazly Amri Mohd; Khairul Nizam Abdul Maulud; Othman A. Karim; Rawshan Ara Begum; Md Firoz Khan; Wan Shafrina Wan Mohd Jaafar; Sharifah Mastura Syed Abdullah; Mohd Ekhwan Toriman; Mohd Khairul Amri Kamarudin; Muhammad Barzani Gasim; Noorjima Abd WahabClimate change interacts in a different way with varieties of human activities and other drivers of change along coastlines. Sea level rise (SLR) is one of the major impacts of global warming. Changes in climate extremes and SLR may impact the critical infrastructures such as coastal road, jetty and chalets as well as the local community. The population and assets exposed to coastal risks will increase significantly due to population growth, economic development and urbanization in the future. As most of the cities in Malaysia are situated near the coast, immediate actions are needed to minimize the undesired outcome due to the SLR.The main objective of this study is to identify physical variables that may have impacts on the coastal area, thus develop a coastal vulnerability index (CVI) for the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Seven (7) physical variables have been identified to assess the CVI that consists of geomorphology, coastal slope, shoreline change rate, mean significant wave height, mean tidal range, relative sea level rate and land use.Item Embargo Analysis of meander evolution studies on effect from land use and climate change at the upstream reach of the Pahang River, Malaysia(Springer, 2015) Mohd Khairul Amri Kamarudin; Mohd Ekhwan Toriman; Mohd Hafiz Rosli; Hafizan Juahir; Nor Azlina Abdul Aziz; Azman Azid; Syahrir Farihan Mohamed Zainuddin; Wan Nor Azmin SulaimanHydrogeomorphologically, the study of river meandering provides information on the tendency of rivers to reach and form a state of equilibrium. The process of meander changes is important in order to identify the environment-related causes that occur naturally or vice versa. Sedimentation, erosion, flood, and water quality problems usually are being specifically studied, but in a broad view, changes in the platform of the river affect all the problems that occur. This article discusses the effects of the meanders evolution changes from land use and climate change in the upstream of Sungai Pahang in over 61 years from 1932 to 1993.Item Restricted Kepekatan Beban Bahan Pencemar Di Alur Ilmu Kampus Ukm Bangi: Kaedah Min Kepekatan Peristiwa (Emc)(The Malaysian Analytical Sciences Society, 2012) Haslinur Md Din; Mohd Ekhwan Toriman; Mazlin Mokhtar; Rahmah Elfithri; Nor Azlina Ab. Artikel ini membincangkan beban pencemar kualiti air dan hubungannya dengan luahan (m3/s) menggunakan kaedah Min Kepekatan Peristiwa (EMC) di Alur Ilmu UKM yang berpunca dari hutan Diptorakap Simpan BangiItem Embargo Prediction of the level of air pollution using principal component analysis and artificial neural network techniques: A case study in Malaysia(Springer, 2014) Azman Azid; Hafizan Juahir; Mohd Ekhwan Toriman; Mohd Khairul Amri Kamarudin; Ahmad Shakir Mohd Saudi; Che Noraini Che Hasnam; Nor Azlina Abdul Aziz; Fazureen Azaman; Mohd Talib Latif; Syahrir Farihan Mohamed Zainuddin; Mohamad Romizan Osman; Mohammad YaminThis study focused on the pattern recognition of Malaysian air quality based on the data obtained from the Malaysian Department of Environment (DOE). Eight air quality parameters in ten monitoring stations in Malaysia for 7 years (2005-2011) were gathered. Principal component analysis (PCA) in the environmetric approach was used to identify the sources of pollution in the study locations. The combination of PCA and artificial neural networks (ANN) was developed to determine its predictive ability for the air pollutant index (API). The PCA has identified that CH4, NmHC, THC, O3, and PM10 are the most significant parameters.Item Embargo Relationship of rainfall distribution and water level on major flood 2014 in Pahang River basin, Malaysia(Thai Society of Higher Education Institutes on Environment, 2017) Nur Hishaam Sulaiman; Mohd Khairul Amri Kamarudin; Mohd Ekhwan Toriman; Hafizan Juahir; Frankie Marcus Ata; Azman Azid; Noor Jima Abd Wahab; Roslan Umar; Saiful Iskandar Khalit; Mokhairi Makhtar; Amal Arfan; Uca SidengClimate change gives impact on extreme hydrological events especially in extreme rainfall. This article discusses about the relationship of rainfall distribution and water level on major flood 2014 in Pahang River Basin, Malaysia in helping decision makers to flood management system. Based on DID Malaysia rainfall station, 56 stations have being use as point in this research and it is including Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan and Perak. Data set for this study were analysed with GIS analysis using interpolation method to develop Isohyet map and XLstat statistical software for PCA and SPC analyses.
