Item Open Access Assessments of seasonal groundwater recharge and discharge using environmental stable isotopes at Lower Muda River Basin, Malaysia(Springer, 2018) Mohd Khairul Nizar Shamsuddin; Wan Nor Azmin Sulaiman; Mohammad Firuz Ramli; Faradiella Mohd Kusin; Kamarudin SamudingAn accurate estimation of groundwater recharge is required to properly manage aquifers, especially for riverbank filtration method (RBF) purposes. The isotopes correlations and differences in different water bodies were studied to assess the sources of groundwater recharge and preliminary tools in understanding of the surface water and groundwater interactions in the Lower Muda River Basin.Item Restricted Groundwater and surface-water utilisation using a bank infiltration technique in Malaysia(Springer, 2014) Mohd Khairul Nizar Shamsuddin; Wan Nor Azmin Sulaiman; Saim Suratman; Mohamad Pauzi Zakaria; Kamarudin SamudingBank infiltration (BI) is one of the solutions to providing raw water for public supply in tropical countries. This study in Malaysia explores the use of BI to supplement a polluted surface-water resource with groundwater. Three major factors were investigated: (1) contribution of surface water through BI to the resulting abstraction, (2) input of local groundwater, and (3) water-quality characteristics of the resulting water supply.Item Embargo Multivariate analysis for source identification of pollution in sediment of Linggi River, Malaysia(Springer, 2018) Md Suhaimi Elias; Shariff Ibrahim; Kamarudin Samuding; Shamsiah Ab Rahman; Yii Mei Wo; Jeremy Andy Dominic DaungRapid socioeconomic development in the Linggi River Basin has contributed to the significant increase of pollution discharge into the Linggi River and its adjacent coastal areas. The toxic element contents and distributions in the sediment samples collected along the Linggi River were determined using neutron activation analysis (NAA) and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) techniques.
