Item Open Access Comparison of water table fluctuation and chloride mass balance methods for recharge estimation in a tropical rainforest climate: a case study from Kelantan River catchment, Malaysia(Springer, 2015) Seyed Reza Saghravani; Ismail Yusoff; Wan Zakaria Wan Md Tahir; Zainudin OthmanEstimated groundwater recharge for selected locations in northeast Peninsular Malaysia (North Kelantan River catchment) was determined using the water table fluctuation (WTF) and chloride mass balance (CMB) methods. The WTF method recharge estimates were compared to the CMB method estimates to see if results are similar and the methods can be applied in a humid, tropical region, such as Malaysia.Item Embargo Distance impacts toxic metals pollution in mining affected river sediments(Elsevier, 2022) Chin Yik Lin; Bibi Noorarlijannah Mohammad Ali; Rohana Tair; Baba Musta; Mohd Harun Abdullah; Fera Cleophas; Feona Isidore; Mohd Shahrul Mohd Nadzir; Muhammad Hatta Roselee; Ismail YusoffThe study of metals mobility derived from mining activities in an ultramafic lithology is limited. This study investigates the effects of distance on potentially toxic metals such as Co, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn pollution, and the geochemical processes of fluvial system downstream of an ex-copper mine (Mamut River). The toxicity level of the river was evaluated using various sediment quality guidelines, ecotoxicological risks (ecological risk and risk index) and pollution indices. The geochemical behavior and stability of these toxic metals in the solid-phase samples were also examined.Item Restricted Estimating groundwater recharge based on mass balance evaluation of unsaturated zone in a coastal catchment characterized by tropical rainforest weather conditions(Springer, 2016) Seyed Reza Saghravani; Ismail Yusoff; Wan Zakaria Wan Md Tahir; Zainudin OthmanEstimation of recharge is necessary for evaluating water resources in the north Kelantan catchment of Malaysia due to rapid development and consequently over-drafting of available groundwater. In order to determine the amount of recharge, a study of natural salts (i.e., chloride and sulfate) was conducted to estimate groundwater recharge rates. Studies of the chloride mass balance (CMB) and sulfate mass balance (SMB) were carried out in the unsaturated zone under rainforest weather conditions with a relatively shallow groundwater table.Item Restricted Integrated geoelectrical resistivity, hydrochemical and soil property analysis methods to study shallow groundwater in the agriculture area, Machang, Malaysia(Springer, 2012) Nur Islami; Samsudin Hj Taib; Ismail Yusoff; Azman Abdul GhaniIntegrated geoelectrical resistivity, hydrochemical and soil property analysis methods were used to study the groundwater characteristics of sandy soils within a shallow aquifer in the agriculture area, Machang. A pilot test investigation was done prior to the main investigation. The area was divided into two sites. Test-Site 1 is non-fertilized; Test-Site 2 is the former regularly fertilized site.Item Open Access Multivariate statistical analysis for identifying water quality and hydrogeochemical evolution of shallow groundwater in Quaternary deposits in the Lower Kelantan River Basin, Malaysian Peninsula(Springer, 2016) Nur Hayati Hussin; Ismail Yusoff; Wan Zakaria Wan Muhd Tahir; Ibrahim Mohamed; Adriana Irawati Nur Ibrahim; Adzhar RambliA long-term hydrogeochemical data set is used in this study to evaluate the water quality and hydrogeochemical evolution of shallow groundwater in a Quaternary deposit. A multivariate statistical method, hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA), is applied to overcome the problem of a large number of data points in the integration, interpretation and representation of the results. HCA is applied to a subgroup of the hydrogeochemical data set to evaluate their usefulness to classify the groundwater bodies.Item Metadata only Perkembangan Penulisan dan Terjemahan Kitab-kitab Tafsir di Malaysia(Penerbit UKM) Ismail YusoffItem Restricted Simulation of groundwater level through artificial intelligence system(Springer, 2015) Mahmoud Khaki; Ismail Yusoff; Nur IslamiIndividually applying intelligent calculating tools, such as artificial neural network and fuzzy logic techniques, to a variety of problems is confirmed to be efficient. Recently, a growing interest in a combination of these methods has resulted in the neuro-fuzzy calculating technique. The application of the artificial neural network (ANN) and the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) to groundwater level simulation, over 7 years from 2007 to 2013, in the Langat Basin, Malaysia, is presented in this paperItem Restricted Trace metals geochemistry for health assessment coupled with adsorption remediation method for the groundwater of Lorong Serai 4, Hulu Langat, west coast of Peninsular Malaysia(Springer, 2020) Usman Abdullahi Usman; Ismail Yusoff; Muggundha Raoov; Jonathan HodgkinsonThe research study was carried out to evaluate trace metals (Pb, Cd, Se, Al, Mn, Cu, Zn, Fe, As, Ni, Cr, and Ag) concentrations in groundwater of Lorong Serai 4, Hulu Langat, Selangor, Malaysia. Additionally, the research study focused on determining non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic health risks, sources of the contaminants, and effective remediation methods.
