Item Embargo Cost-benefit analysis of climate change mitigation measures in the forestry sector of Peninsular Malaysia(Springer, 2021) Asif Raihan; Mohd Nizam Mohd SaidMalaysia has forest land around 67% of the total land area which helps to mitigate climate change by absorbing atmospheric CO2 and enhancing the national carbon sink. However, there is a lack of study on the cost-effectiveness of potential mitigation measures in the forestry sector of Malaysia (e.g., forest conservation, afforestation, natural regeneration). Therefore, this article attempts to do a cost-benefit analysis (CBA) of the potential mitigation measures for 25, 50 and 75 years by considering the discount rate of 0% and 3%.Item Embargo Dynamic impacts of energy use, agricultural land expansion, and deforestation on CO2 emissions in Malaysia(Springer, 2022) Asif Raihan; Rawshan Ara Begum; Mohd Nizam; Mohd Said; Joy Jacqueline PereiraThis study empirically investigates the nexus among energy use, agricultural land expansion, deforestation, and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in Malaysia. Time series data from 1990 to 2019 were utilized using the bounds testing (ARDL) approach followed by the Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares (DOLS) method. The DOLS estimate findings show that the energy usage coefficient is positive and significant with CO2 emissions, indicating a 1% increase in energy consumption is related to a 0.91% rise in CO2 emissions.
